This policy was to start this year as it was said in last year.But publishers are pleading with GES to postpone the implementation to 2021 as to allow them sell their old books to pay their loans taken from banks to publish their books and also avoid plagiarism.
According to the book authors, they heard of this implementation last year and they asked GES about it and it assured these publishers that there won't be no syllabi review said by Mr. Nkansah.
The syllabi is to be reviewed every five years but with this current syllabi it has been used for ten years. After 10 years of inaction, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has activated processes to revise the syllabi of basic, junior and
senior high schools this year.
The decision to revise the syllabi is part of the government’s educational reform agenda.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday the
Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku
Amankwa, explained that under normal circumstances, “the
curriculum is supposed to be revised every five years, but our
curriculum has gone beyond 10 years without being
reviewed”.
“Again, there are many duplications and irrelevance in the
curriculum and that is one of the key things that the
government has put on its agenda — to reform.
The publishers then want the government to relax because it can't just release a communique and within four months seek to implement it. That is too swift and it does this; authors will copy from others because there will be limited time for us to do research,Mr. Nkansah stated.
The Government should try to make it possible not to undermine the good law which demands for that a good law must be well publicized to the knowledge of the people. And not to passed on laws, make amendment though it is good, however,without considering the views of the citizens.
